Numie Wood Fired Sauna Experience

Welcome
Please Bring With You

You're about to experience one of Tasmania's most secluded wood-fired saunas.

Tucked beneath the white gums on the edge of Pelican Bay, this is a place to slow down. Watch the changing light over the Hazards, listen to the birds, breathe deeply and let the warmth do the rest.

There is no right way to sauna.

Some guests spend their entire session inside. Others alternate between the heat, the outdoor shower and a walk along the shoreline.

Your body is your best guide.

❋ Swimwear

While we offer nudie time at the main retreat house, this isn’t available for the wood fired sauna. Please remain clothed.

❋ Drinking Water

Ensure you have a water bottle to drink during your session. Remember anything that goes inside the sauna gets hot! Keep devices and belongings outside on the bench.

❋ Comfortable Footwear

You’ll be navigating a mulched track through the bushland setting, please ensure you wear shoes to and from your sauna.

❋ Warm Clothing for After

It can be chilly with the breeze coming into the property from Pelican Bay. Please bring warm clothes to rug up in after your session - especially if you end with an exhilerating cold shower after.

We provide:
Two towels per guest
Drinking water
Outdoor cold shower
Private change area
Firewood for maintaining the fire if required

These are the TERMS & CONDITIONS you have agreed to for your upcoming sauna session.

Finding the Sauna

Numie
65 Flacks Road
Coles Bay

After arriving:

Park in the designated parking area in front of the garage, on the left of the driveway.

  1. Walk along the driveway to the right of the property, along past the steel water tanks. When you get to the first track on the left just past the water tanks - turn left and follow.

  2. Walk through the bush scrub, please wear shoes.

  3. You'll arrive at the sauna overlooking Pelican Bay.

Please stay on the designated paths and respect surrounding private areas. We operate accommodation surrounding the sauna year round. The sauna is only used when booked by guests and the public - there should be nobody else in your immediate sauna area.

Our team lights the sauna before your booking.

Depending on the weather, outside temperature and wind, the sauna may continue warming throughout your session. Wood-fired saunas naturally fluctuate and won't maintain an exact temperature like an electric sauna.

Before entering:

✔ Place one towel on the bench to sit on.

✔ Remove shoes.

✔ Bring your water bottle inside.

✔ Test the door so you're familiar with opening it.

Sauna Care

Wood-fired saunas require occasional attention.

Your fire has already been started before arrival.

Throughout your booking:

If the fire is burning well, simply enjoy the experience.

If the flames begin to die down:

• Open the firebox slowly.

• Add one or two small pieces of firewood.

• Close the door completely.

Wait around 10–15 minutes before adding more.

Avoid overfilling the firebox. A smaller, hotter fire produces better heat than a large pile of wood.

Never leave the firebox door open.

10–15 minutes in the sauna

Cold shower

5–10 minutes resting outside

Repeat 3–5 times

There are no rules.

Stay only as long as you feel comfortable.

Leave immediately if you feel dizzy, lightheaded or unwell.

Before You Leave

Before leaving:

☐ Collect your belongings

☐ Place used towels in the basket

☐ Ensure the sauna door is closed

☐ Leave the fire exactly as it is

☐ Vacate by the end of your booking time

Our team may not attend directly after the booking, please ensure the sauna is left in safe condition. If there is anything you need to bring to our attention, our number is 0408 547 966.
