Nestled on the banks of the Tasmanian East Coast, Swan River Sanctuary blends harmoniously into the landscape of the surrounding paddocks and banks of the Swan River. Offering a unique and secluded escape into nature, where panoramic views and luxurious design come together for the perfect getaway.

Nestled on the banks of the Swan River on Tasmania’s East Coast is our luxury lodge and wood-fired sauna. Totally private with no others in sight.

 

Large sliding doors and windows spill in light and the sounds of the riverbanks - drawing you into the panoramic views in all directions up and down the river or over the undulating farmland. Design highlights such as an abalone shell wall, huge bohemian chandelier and a large stone fireplace that is perfect for winter open fires. On the ground floor there are two queen bedrooms with bathroom and bath as well chef’s kitchen full the culinary enthusiasts. While the master king is found on the second level, with an in-room stone bath to take advantage of the sprawling views. A separate bathroom adjoins to the master.
Rate includes breakfast for the first morning, a bottle of sparkling wine, and unlimited sauna usage.

- The River Safari -

The River Safari is an unforgettable guided journey along the Swan River, departing right from the lodge’s doorstep. Step aboard and drift through pristine waters surrounded by native bushland, abundant birdlife, wildlife and the ever-changing rhythms of the river. Your host, Mathew Routley, owner of the Sanctuary and proud Tasmanian, brings the landscape to life with captivating First Nations storytelling while at all times being on the lookout for the myriad of bird species the river has on offer. Binoculars are provided to guests and morning tea is served on the boat.

- Regenerative Farm Tour -

The Regenerative Farm Tour offers a behind the scenes look at Riversdale Farm, a 1,000 acre working cattle property (on which the sanctuary is located) that’s proving how nature and farming can thrive together. Join Mat for a hands on introduction to regenerative agriculture, learn the principles that go into producing the fam’s nutrient rich beef. Learn how to move cattle in a calm, low-stress way, in your time spent with the herd. We can also have a tractor ride!

Both experiences are deeply personal and crafted to leave you with a lasting sense of place – where the river, farm and wilderness intertwine in a truly Tasmanian story.
